Empowering Digital Competence through DigiComPass Training

The DigiComPass Training program, built on the Flipped Learning 3.0 model, aims to enhance digital competences for adults. This innovative training method leverages a Moodle-based learning platform to provide a rich, interactive, and multimedia-focused Individual Learning Space (ILS). By transforming traditional learning approaches, DigiComPass offers a comprehensive and flexible learning experience that aligns with the needs of modern adult learners.

The core of DigiComPass Training is its structured approach, which divides the curriculum into five distinct modules. Each module is further broken down into lessons, with each lesson comprising several micro-learning units. This modular structure is designed to facilitate active learning during the individual learning phase, ensuring learners engage with content in a meaningful and practical manner.

DigiComPass Training & Micro Learning

Micro-learning units are a pivotal element of DigiComPass Training, offering numerous advantages:

  1. Focused Learning: Each micro-learning unit targets a specific skill or piece of knowledge, allowing learners to concentrate on one concept at a time. This focused approach helps to reinforce understanding and retention of information.
  2. Flexibility: Micro-learning units are designed to be concise and self-contained, enabling learners to fit their studies into their busy schedules. Whether they have five minutes or an hour, learners can progress through the material at their own pace.
  3. Enhanced Engagement: The interactive nature of micro-learning units encourages active participation. Features such as quizzes, interactive videos, and gamified elements make learning more engaging and enjoyable.
  4. Better Retention: Studies have shown that breaking information into smaller, more manageable chunks helps improve memory retention. Micro-learning units leverage this by delivering content in bite-sized pieces that are easier to absorb and recall.
  5. Immediate Application: Micro-learning units often include practical exercises or real-world scenarios that allow learners to apply what they have learned immediately. This hands-on approach helps to solidify new knowledge and skills.

Here are two examples:

  • The presentation about Phishing Scams gives an introduction to the term.
  • The interactive video about bias and fake helps users to understand the problems of digital content from the internet and to get information how to analyse content.

By integrating these micro-learning units into the DigiComPass Training, the program ensures that learners can develop their digital competences in a structured, flexible, and engaging way. This method supports individual learning needs and empowers learners to take control of their educational journey, ultimately leading to better outcomes and enhanced digital literacy.

The DigiComPass Training program’s use of micro-learning units within a Flipped Learning 3.0 framework offers a modern, effective approach to adult education. Through focused, flexible, and engaging content, learners are equipped to build their digital competences in a way that fits seamlessly into their lives.

About Micro Learning

Micro learning is an approach to learning that breaks down information into short, focused bursts, typically under 10 minutes. It’s inspired by research on memory retention, like the forgetting curve, which shows we forget most information quickly. By delivering bite-sized lessons, micro learning allows for better knowledge absorption and easier integration into busy schedules.
